Guest Passes on Sundog now make it easy to work with people who are outside your lab. They’re ideal for collaborating with external clinicians, sharing imagery with a reviewer, or inviting clients and customers to look at images with you.
A guest pass gives a user access to a single project, as either a viewer (view-only) or commenter (view, make comments, and add annotations to stacks).
Creating guests passes is easy: when adding a user to a project, just choose the “as a guest” tab, and enter the email address of the user you’d like to invite.
When the collaboration is complete, you can revoke the guest pass with one click.

For example
You have an ongoing project - Staining Resesarch Project - with six experiments in it. You wish to share a couple of experiments (and their stacks) with a collaborating clinician. They’re part of your research project, but they’re not part of your lab (or your Lab on Sundog). You don’t want them to see everything in the project yet, though - just the two experiments that are ready to share. That’s not a problem:
- Create a new project -
Staining Research Project (Sharing) - Add the two experiments from the original project to it. (Remember, experiments can belong to multiple projects).
- Invite
clinician@institute.govas a guest to the Sharing project, with Commenter level
When your collaborator accepts the invite and signs into Sundog, they’ll see the (Sharing) Project, and all the experiments in it. They’ll be able to comment on stacks and annotate them.
As experiments become ready for sharing, add them to the Sharing project, and your guest will able to see them automatically.
And if you want to draw their attention to anything, you can @-message them on a Stack just like any other user. They’ll get an email alert, drawing their attention to your comment.
Guest Pass allowances
By default, every Sundog account starts with 20 guest passes; you can organise more as part of your contract (see our pricing page for how that would affect your costs).
A single guest pass is for each project a guest is invited to. This means that the same user invited to three different projects would use three guest passes. When you revoke the guest’s access to a project, you’ll free up the ‘pass’ in your account.
Full lab members, of course, have access to an unlimited number of experiments and projects within the lab.
Sundog is built on collaboration, and Guest Passes extend the ways you can collaborate with other users. This functionality is live now, and available to all Labs on Sundog.
