Right now, biologists miss discoveries because their software fails them. It’s too complicated, it’s too expensive, and it’s not built for the thing that drives the field: collaboration.Sundog sets out to change that. Designed from the ground up as a collaborative tool, it combines best-of-breed user experience, modern browser technologies, and robust scientific know-how to make working with image data delightful.Sundog launches in alpha Q1 2026.
Online
Sundog is available in a web browser, wherever you are in the world. Your images are available at full resolution, in our quick and straightforward fullscreen viewer, and stored securely in the cloud. When you produce figures or exports, they’re saved within Sundog: no need to hunt down old archives when you need to make a change.
Multiplayer
Sundog’s image tooling is designed for multiple users by default. See each other’s cursors, comments and annotations in real-time; receive notifications of updates to experiments within your lab via the app or email.

Collaborative
Sundog is built for labs. Work alongside your lab colleagues, in the familiar context of Experiments and Projects. Invite collaborators from other labs to only the specific work you need to share with them. Everything in Sundog has a URL: go straight from an activity notification to the region of interest it’s describing within an image.

Integrated
Sundog is designed to complement your existing workflow and tools. Import images - including metadata - from major devices. Integrate with machine learning tools like segmentation models via APIs or upload, adding their outputs as overlays to your images. And when you’re ready for output - whether it’s for a monthly slide deck in the lab, or a print-resolution poster or paper - Sundog’s figure generation tools make it straightforward to get accurate, beautiful images out.

Alex is an experienced commercial leader, most recently at Abcam, where she led strategy and customer insight for three years. After seeing biologists held back from their best work by the software they use, she founded Sundog to bring the best of the modern web to cutting-edge scientific research. She brings decades of product and marketing experience from technology-led businesses, including startups like Privitar and moo.com and established companies like Getty Images.

Tom Armitage
CTO
Tom brings multiple decades of building internet products to Sundog. He’s an experienced developer and designer, with a strong focus on zero-to-one product invention. As well as consulting with firms like Google Deepmind, The Guardian, The BBC, Lunar Energy, and more, he’s also experienced with early-stage startups, notably taking CaptionHub from concept to market. He’s spoken on design and technology at conferences around the world.
Alongside our experienced founding team, we’re supported by an expert scientific advisory board with members from Imperial, EMBL and the University of Cambridge. We have initial funding and significant advisory support from a group of exited founders, commercial leaders and designers.
